What to Look For in the Signs of a Herniated Disk

herniated-diskIf you suffer from chronic back pain, then it’s probably time to seek help from a chiropractor. Chiropractic treatment for back problems has been shown to be effective. But how do you recognize the signs of a herniated disc and not just normal back pain? One common symptom is where the pain originates. Although they can happen in any area of your back, herniated discs are most commonly found in the upper back (the lumbar back), just below your hips.

Herniated disks often cause discomfort while sleeping or while standing. They can be so painful that you need a lot of support during your activities. They can affect your ability to walk and move your arms or shoulders. You may also feel pressure on the disks when sitting down.

A hernia can cause irritation or even the rupture of the disk’s inner lining. The inner layer can come out and the entire disk itself can bulge outward. This causes the sharp shooting pain that is usually felt in the middle of the back. Sometimes, this sharp pain radiates from the top of the back down towards the buttocks.

As mentioned, there are several different types of herniations that can occur with a disk. If a disk is slipped or prolapsed, the lining inside the disk can come out through a small opening or crack. When that occurs, the disk’s fluid (accuse) becomes exposed and this results in the sharp shooting pain.

When the disk bulges, it can cause the spinal column to bend forward or backwards. This can cause the muscles to stretch, which puts more pressure on the disks. If the discs aren’t properly aligned, they may bulge out, but if they are bent, they may slip in and this causes pain to spread to other areas of the back.

If you notice any of these symptoms, then it’s likely that you have a herniated disc. But you don’t need to wait and see a doctor until you have symptoms.

A herniated disc can go undetected for years. It is not always obvious to a doctor. This is because the pain is usually very severe, but there is no obvious way to know if you have a herniated disc. A herniated disc can cause a lot of pain.

So what can you do about it? Many doctors prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs, which are usually prescribed as topical treatments. They relieve the symptoms and help to reduce the pain temporarily. They also help to protect the spine from further injury by keeping the muscles tight.

The doctor may also recommend exercise and physical therapy. These types of treatments both focus on stretching and strengthening the muscles and the joints to prevent further damage from occurring. If you have the symptoms of a herniated disk, then you should get the treatment as soon as possible.
